Wow, buried childhood memory unlocked!! Loved reflecting on this book series that I completely forgot about (and thoroughly enjoyed as a young reader).
I grew up on books. Even now I read just about everything I can get my hands on. Books like Beverly Cleary's "Henry Huggins" stories, as well as the "Mouse and The Motorcycle" just made reading fun back in the day.
Good children's books are the bridges to good books for any age. A love of reading made me want to read H.G. Wells, Jack London, Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, and later my all time favorite author Louis L'Amour.
The more people read, the more they can dream. I am absolutely convinced of this.
This is brilliant, Katie. Thanks for sharing. It made me think of all the books that comforted me when I was a kid and are forever etched into my mind too.
I love that you read it until ‘the bindings were cracked and the pages were stained’. Can’t get a better review than that!
I had forgotten about this series, but it was so good! She did have the most interesting ways of helping kids learn what their choices would really mean. I distinctly remember the one about letting kids who didn’t want to go to bed stay up as late as they wanted, such that they missed a party the next day. Interesting to look back on the principles now as an adult.
Love this! Yes, let’s all conspire together against the conspiracy of aging. :) Thank you for sharing, Katie! I enjoyed reflecting back on the books whose pages I stained and bindings I cracked as a child.

I loved these books as a child! Thanks for the reminder. “A good story is a refuge” - so true.
I haven’t thought about Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle in so long! This made me want to find a copy and read it again.
Man, I loved that book and also Amelia Bedelia.
